A Day of Golf

August 14, 2017

I’ll be honest, I have golfed twice before in my life. The first time was at a dear friend’s bachelorette party, and the second was a few weekends ago at Topgolf! If you’ve never heard of Topgolf, it is a mix of golf and bowling. Aka, a really good place to go if you’ve never golfed before and want to work at your swing. It was so helpful to work on my golf swing and practice hitting some balls for an hour in a fun environment. Especially since the only golfing experience I’ve ever had besides the party has been mini-golf!

At Topgolf, you rent out a bay for an hour at least, and during that time you can hit as many balls as your heart desires. You can have as many friends at the bay at a time, and can play games against each other.

Each person has a card signifying it’s them, and your information is stored in the computer. You can play against your friends by hitting the balls in to the targets on the green. The balls are computerized in that they recognize who is hitting them (based on your input in the computer) and will read where you hit them and send a score based on that final location of the ball, back to the computer.

For instance, I could hit a ball in to the outer ring of the blue target and receive 5 points. The closer to the flag I hit it, the more points I have. (Forgive me if this isn’t the correct terminology! I’m still learning.) Ryan ended up helping me improve my golf game immensely and I ended up walking away feeling pretty good about my swing.

Topgolf is such a fun way to golf, spend time with friends, and still be competitive. We went in the morning as the prices of each bay are cheaper, and the price increases throughout the day.

Secretly, I was pretty stoked to wear my golf shorts (really just shorts I knew would be appropriate for golfing) that I had purchased on last year’s Black Friday. However, don’t feel like you need to wear golf gear, because jeans and a t-shirt seemed to be the norm. No judgment here!

I should mention that you can bring your own clubs to Topgolf to play with, otherwise the clubs will be provided.

This is definitely something we’ll be doing more in the future. Such a fun place to bring friends who may visit! At each bay, you also have access to the kitchen and a waiter will come around to take your order for food or drinks. A pretty nifty way to chat, golf, and be merry!

A pretty fun way to spend a morning, indeed! If you’re ever in Denver, this is a highly recommended outing! I also looked to see there are many other locations across the US.

Have you ever played golf? Any fun tips for a newbie?
