Before the school year started last year, I had my mind set on creating a DIY shelf that I could hold my miscellaneous books and trinkets on. I had an idea of what I wanted to create, as I had seen something similar on Pinterest, and loved the way the shelf looked. With a little bit of searching for white crates, I was able to create a sweet little nightstand/bookshelf. It’s been such a treat to have this little guy, and it was quite easy and affordable to DIY!
DIY Crate Shelf:
- 2 Wooden Milk Crates (I picked up some pre-painted ones from Michael’s)
- Wood Glue
- Metal Fastener/Bracket
- Use wood glue to spread on one side of the milk crate, and a matching side of another milk crate, to create a stack.
- Clamp together using wood clamps to ensure that the crates are glued together. Wait until the glue dries. (I waited 12 hours before taking them apart.
- Screw a fastener or bracket on the back of the crates to make sure they will stay together. This allows the crates to carry more weight as well.
I’ve really loved using these crates for some books, tea, and candles. I actually used this shelf at school last year for some of my teaching resources. With a new year started, I decided it was time I used it at home too!
