DIY Pom Pom Straw Clutch

I have loved all of the straw clutches and bags that are quite popular this summer! I really love them because of their whimsy and over-all cuteness for a day at the beach or just around town. I’m also someone who likes to switch up my bags or wallet of choice for various events throughout the summer. With some of these clutch designs, I realized I could easily make my own! And you know what, it turned out pretty well.

I’ve seen several ideas around the Web on how to make your own clutch, such as thisAfter some research, I looked in to buying supplies for the clutch, and found most of them at JoAnn’s Fabric Store. I ended up buying the Pom-Poms in a bag, instead of the Pom-Pom Garland, as it was cheaper and I could have more options for color pairings, etc. I purchased two straw place mats for $3 from the Target Dollar Section which made up my bag! With a few quick stitches, I had a cute clutch ready to go! This project honestly took me about half an hour, and I know it’s something I’ll be able to use and be proud of when I do use it.

Here’s what you’ll need to make the Clutch:

  • Omg, that’s so cute. I always loved pom poms, but I never thought of making it (diy) by myself! Pretty interesting since I love the colors, :):)

  • This is adorable! Did you hand sew or use a sewing machine? I feel like I have no sewing skills, but might be able to tackle this one!

    • I didn’t use a sewing machine, just hand stitched, but you definitely could use a sewing machine! Let me know if you try it out! It was so fun to make!

  • This is such a great idea. Your clutch is adorable!

  • This is SUPER cute. I can’t wait to do this with my daughter.
Now that it’s days later, did your bag hold up? Straw mats seems like they have tough material for threads to stay on.
