Pursuing What Makes You Happy

November 21, 2017

I recently attended a Google Conference for Educators and heard some powerful stories about how technology is helping students. The first impactful story was about a young boy who didn’t have any pictures of his grandmother before she past away. While one day scrolling through Google Street View of his hometown, he discovered the Google Maps Truck had captured him walking hand in hand with his grandmother down the street. It was the only photo the family had of the two of them together.

There are so many wonderful ways that technology can be used, and those stories are the ones that fuel me up, and make me passionate about utilizing technology in so many positive and wonderful ways, especially as an educator.

Call me a nerd for being excited about creating a blog for my students or using Google Maps or strange new interactive technology, but it’s something I feel so passionate about.

What is something you are passionate about?

We live in a world where we are told that as we grow up, anything is possible. I truly believe this. The world is our oyster and it’s up to us to spread our wings and fly.

I think sometimes we get caught up in what the world wants for us, when really, we should be asking ourselves, “What do we want to do for the world?”

I think so many times, we get squashed down by the social media game, trying to figure out what we should be doing to make our lives look prettier and more interesting on social media, that we forget a bit about who we are as people, and the dreams we want to chase.

For instance, if I were to try and buy every outfit I saw on Instagram from every post I ever liked, I would probably only end up disappointing myself since I couldn’t afford that amount of clothing and for each item I’d buy, and I’d be using all that money on something else I could be doing to pursue my dreams.

It's better to chase your own dreams and find what makes you happy, than doing what will make the world happy. Click To Tweet

So seriously, what are you passionate about??

Is it something you haven’t shared with anyone, or is it something that you’re actively pursuing? Is it a dream that you’ve pushed to the back of your mind, or is it something you’re ready to share with the world?

If you have that dream that you are waiting on, well, now is a good as time as any to go out and pursue that dream. You’ve got all the tools you need! I believe in you friend. Whether your dream is “nerdy” like mine, (which I’m stoked about, btw), or it’s something small, I know you can do this. You’ve already come this far, so why not keep reaching for the stars??

Sending a big burst of encouragement to you, friend. No matter where you’re at or what you’re doing, you’ve got this.

Biggest thanks to Zoey Grace Photography for the photos!

I think writing down your dreams and goals helps too! Something about writing them down add weight or motivation to them!
