This weekend was certainly one where I wanted to get so much done, and ended up being pretty sick. It was kind of unfortunate because the to-do list was a little long, but it helped me to take a step back and recognize the importance of Rest and Recuperation. Especially during the holidays.
The Holidays bring with it festivities, gatherings, get-togethers, decorations, and shopping, and often times it gets to be a lot. It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year and seems to be the busiest as well! The most important gift you can give yourself this Holiday season is the gift of Rest.
What does Rest look like? Well it may look different from person to person, but no matter how you see rest, it is important to take time for yourself.
Here are some quick ways you can take time for yourself:
1// Do An Activity You Enjoy
Even if it is a busy day, find time to slow down, catch your breath and do something for yourself for ten minutes or more. Put the wrapping paper aside and find a good cup of hot chocolate and a Christmas movie and take time for yourself. Soak up the moment and try to not think about your to-do list. By removing yourself from the stress and quantity of the Holidays, you are taking quality time for yourself.
One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is write. I love watching the snow falling on the neighborhood and writing. Taking time for myself doesn’t mean I’m particularly social, but that’s okay. It means I have time to refresh and feel energized for whatever else is to come.
2// Find time to get outside
Even if it is cold, we do often choose activities indoors during the Holiday season. However, it is so important to make sure you get outside to enjoy the fresh air and sunlight. Soak up some Vitamin D and take a walk around the block. Find an outdoor ice skating rink and take some time to exercise. I’d also highly recommend skiing! 3// Take time to Reflect
The Holiday season also marks the end of the year, and what better time than to reflect upon 2016? Try journaling or blogging about this year and what growth and accomplishments you’ve seen this year. It’s important to recognize something as big as a year.
