What I’ve Been Reading Lately
There have been a few fantastic books I’ve read during the month of December. I set the goal last January to read 24 books in the year, and by the time November hit, I had only read 10. You can imagine my panic when I realized I only had two months left to read 14 books. YIKES. Thank goodness for a whole week off for Thanksgiving and a few weeks for Winter Break! Even though I didn’t completely finish that goal, 2017’s goal to read so much gave me the motivation to continue to find new books to read.
Without further ado, here are some of the top books I read the past few weeks.
1 // Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
If you haven’t read a Liane Moriarty book yet, she writes some of the most gripping books, with the best twist endings. I couldn’t put down this one which follows the stories of three women, their families and their Kindergarten children. Through each chapter, readers learn more about the women’s lives and the secrets they each hold.
2 // Capital Gaines by Chip Gaines
In Chip Gaines’ newest book, he details his past experiences where he recounts some mistakes he has made and lessons he has learned, and how those have affected his life. Each lesson he applies to life in general and the whole book is funny and heart-warming!
3 // Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
I originally heard about Outlander from Cotton Stem, and was curious about this series. This historical fiction novel takes place when the main character, Claire, falls through a “shaft in time” to mid 18th century Scotland where she is surrounded by warring clans in the Scottish Highlands. In a detailed historical replication of this era, readers follow along. This was definitely a gripping novel and I felt just as I was learning about the characters, I was learning about more of this period of history.
4 // Emma by Jane Austen
Another literary work of Jane Austen, I had set the goal of reading all of Jane Austen’s novels on my 101 in 1001 list, and Emma was full of both wit and humor. This takes place in the English countryside where Emma is happily matchmaking inside her little community and group of friends. Little did she know love would find her as well.
What are some good books you’ve read lately?
