It’s July 3, which means that “Hamilton”, created by Lin Manuel Miranda, starring the original Broadway cast has been released on Disney Plus! Whether or not you’ve seen the show, chances are you have probably heard the music or have been subjected to the lyrics by someone who is mildly obsessed with the show. 😉 I’ve been anticipating this release for a few months now, after seeing the show when it came to Denver on the Broadway tour. It was a truly incredible performance and the musical has stuck with me, long after the curtain closed. The songs are captivating, the story line pivotal, and the choreography, costumes, and set a work of art.
“Hamilton” tells the story about the United State’s first Treasury Secretary, Alexander Hamilton, and his life’s work. His story is told through hip hop music and the lyrics tell of a deeper story of the challenges each of the characters endured throughout their lives, all set against the backdrop of the American Revolution and formative years of the United States.
I managed to see the Broadway tour of Hamilton when it came through Denver two years ago, and it was stunning. Somehow we managed to make it to the top of the waitlist for tickets and the show did not disappoint; I cried throughout most of the musical. I will also say that my Dad and brother are not fans at all of musicals and they even loved it. Even though the events of the musical took place over 200 years ago, it’s the kind of show that still feels relevant. And now that the musical was released to be streamed, I figured it was a good time to pull out some of the photos from the show a few years ago, despite how grainy they are. But honestly, how could I not?! The show was just THAT good.
In case you’re in need of a preview of what “Hamilton” is (or you’re looking to relive the show), here are a few of my favorite videos and tributes to the Tony-winning show.
1 // This performance of “Hamilton” was extra special as President Obama invited the cast to perform for a group of local students in the White House prior to the end of his term. This performance was a full-circle moment for Lin-Manual Miranda as the first time he had performed anything from Hamilton was in 2009 at the White House’s Evening of Poetry and the Spoken Word.
2 // The creators of “Hamilton” received a Kennedy Center Honor, and their work was celebrated with performances from the musical. The actresses who played the Schulyer Sisters in the original cast performed a new rendition of their introductory song from the musical as well.
3 // The original cast performed “History Has It’s Eyes On You/Yorktown” at the Tony Awards in 2016. This pivotal song portrays what was going on in the United States when the American Revolution ended and talks about the events following the end of the war. It’s a moving song that encompasses a wide range of events that were going on at the time.
4 // In case you were looking for a sneak peek of what will be released on Disney Plus, here are a few clips from the musical.

Just finished watching this on Disney+ and holy cow I was not expecting that! I mean, I’ve heard the hype, but I’m not usually a bandwagon jumper. It was excellent. I can’t imagine seeing it live! So emotional & entertaining!
