We are almost two weeks in to the New Year, and already it feels like so many good things are happening. I have high hopes for this year and the adventures ahead in this new decade. There’s something in the word New that makes me feel full of hope and excitement. Isn’t it just the best feeling to know that something is new and full of hope?!
This year I’ve decided to add more things that bring JOY in to my life. While I’m not a big resolution person, I do appreciate adding things and reflecting on what I intend to do in 2020. In order to get there, I’ve come up with a list of items I’m truly excited about doing this year!
Adrienne has released a 30 day yoga challenge to incorporate a practice each day for the first 30 days of the New Year. This year’s theme is Home and centers around the idea of finding what feels good and right. This has really resonated with me, and has been fantastic with stretching in the morning before work. I’ve loved being able to wake up in the morning and do a yoga video, feeling refreshed for the rest of the day. One of my goals this year is to stretch more, and yoga has been a great way to jump-start that.
2 // Morning Routine
Towards the end of 2019, my morning routine was crummy. I’d snooze the alarm multiple times, scroll through my phone before actually getting up, and then beat myself up for the amount of time I wasted in the morning. It was definitely not a good way to start the day. This year I’ve already put in to practice to wake up 20 minutes early, get in some yoga, reflect and pray, and then actually have time to make some tea! So far, I feel so much more prepared for the day this year. It’s the best feeling!
Last year I read a total of 67 books. With a full load of grad school classes and teaching it was a relief to take a break with a good book. Since I will be done with my Masters officially in May, I have high hopes for having more time to get through books. It seems like the best year to get through all the titles that have been piling up on my To Be Read Shelf, (which at this point is getting pretty big…) PS: Let’s be friends on Goodreads!
4 // Sustainable Choices
Towards the latter part of 2019, I found myself finding other ways to make sustainable choices such as using resusable coffee cups, fabric bags to carry groceries, and reusable produce bags instead of plastic bags. Cierra had some awesome strategies throughout the year about those choices as well. I’ve appreciated that making sustainable choices is actually fairly simple. Adapting small practices in to your own life can be a great step towards sustainability. I’m also making a goal to be more conscientious of what I spend my money on. Will a purchase make me happy? Will the item last? Is it a sustainable purchase? Slowing down to reflect what I spend my money on can make a huge difference.
Ryan and I have made the goal with some friends to hike 20 times in 2020! We’ve got one hike down and have more on the horizon. I’m eager to spend more time outside in the mountains this year. It is a gift to be able to take a short drive up to the mountains. There’s endless amounts of places and cities to explore, trails to be hiked, and conversations to be had with this goal!
6 // Activity to bring JOY
Just like each year, finding things that bring JOY has the biggest impact on your overall well-being. Trying a few things outside of my comfort zone is always the challenge. However, I’ve noticed I never regret trying those new activities.
What are some of your goals for 2020?
