What a month it has been already! It’s been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster lately. Moments of extreme joy followed by bittersweet tears for what Christmas should feel like. While we’re only a week into December, it feels like so much has happened emotionally. I’m learning that it is okay to have those human moments to mourn what Christmas was and replace it with what Christmas feels like this year. Like I said in a previous post, Christmas seems to be softening the edges of 2020 and I think that also means it’s been changing my own thoughts about what it should be like.
I’ve also been counting down the days until Winter Break-I’m more than ready for a nice long break to savor all of the holidays!
Here’s a peek at what things have been like around here so far this month.
I had to do some decorating for a campaign I was taking photos for, and putting together this Christmas scene brought so much joy! I used the shiplap paper I put up when I started teaching at home as the background, and it created the perfect Christmas cabin vibe I didn’t know I needed. I’ve been all about the cozy vibes of Christmas and slowing down and this felt just right.
One of my favorite aspects of Spotify Premium is seeing your year wrapped up! On December 1, Spotify released a compilation playlist and stats on all of its user’s favorite music from the year. I’m not going to lie, my year’s playlist was moody and reflective, much more so than previous years. I listened to a great deal of classical music which was my calming force most days. On all the other days I listened to Folklore which was evident in the playlist! Clearly, I enjoyed Taylor Swift’s latest album. I didn’t even know I was listening to enough of it to be in the top 1% of listeners!
One Friday after school, I drove up to the mountains to take a hike by myself. I hadn’t taken a solo hike since my time working at camp years ago and I cannot tell you how good it felt. I had to test out my new hiking boots and the gorgeous sunset, empty space, fresh air, and snow-covered trails were just what I needed. I listened to Christmas music the whole time which made it feel extra Christmas-y. (Pullover // Boots)
My Mom and I pulled out her wedding dress from the 80’s and I loved seeing all the lace and chiffon that made up her gorgeous dress 35 years ago. We both decided to take some of the lace from her dress to add to my wedding bouquet next Summer. Such a special addition to my Wedding Dress!
I’ve been obsessed with needle pointing lately and cannot get enough of this shop’s kits! They are truly the perfect needlepoint projects. I’ve been trying to work on a project before bed each night and it’s the perfect wind-down activity to end the day with. These kits would also make the perfect Christmas gift since they come with all the parts needed to work on a project!
I was BEYOND excited to see Yeti had brought back the ice pink color in their Rambler tumblers and I immediately added one to my cart over Thanksgiving. I’ve been looking for a pink one for years and drinking my morning Chai lattes out of it each morning has certainly sparked joy. I may have to add this design to my next wish list!
I hope December is going well for you so far!
