2020 was definitely a year I put my own physical health to the side. After running a marathon in September of 2019, my workouts turned minimal, which did not set me up for much success in 2020. Safe to say that the lack of exercise and movement took a toll in the past year and I was not feeling myself whatsoever.
One of my parent’s wedding/Christmas gifts for Ryan and I was a Schwinn bike that we picked up when all the fitness gear went on sale this Fall. I’ve loved having some kind of cardio equipment in my apartment and had been using various YouTube workouts of virtual rides for my workout each day, but wasn’t a super big fan of the YouTube workouts as I didn’t feel the buy-in with doing different workouts with different instructors that all taught their classes differently. In December, after seeing countless commercials and people post about it on Instagram, I decided to try out the Peloton app. I should preface this post by saying I do not own a Peloton bike or treadmill, but had heard great reviews about the classes that are offered on the app. I had always been intrigued by Peloton and its cult-following but didn’t think I could ever use the app because I didn’t have the bike. Once I learned I could use it with any kind of spin bike-I was sold!
The Peloton app allows you to try it free for 30 days (Just checked-and Peloton is now allowing a 2 month free trial for the New Year!) after several workouts, I was hooked. I am absolutely sold on Peloton and all of its classes. Each spin class is a true workout and I find myself dripping with sweat (TMI-but after a year of virtually no sweaty workouts, I am thrilled to be working out again.)
What is included in the app?
There are a variety of strength classes (think lightweights, pilates, & whole-body workouts), spin classes, walking, and yoga classes to name a few. There are awesome instructors for each category of classes and you can choose from a variety of pre-recorded classes to take or you can tune into them live.
My favorite aspects of the Peloton App:
- I absolutely love that I can tailor my own workouts. I usually do a 30-minute spin class, then some kind of quick strength class, followed by a yoga class. I love that it’s also all included in one app so you can easily find classes to take and personalize your workout routine. You can also bookmark the classes that you want to take for future use.
- For each class you take, you can see the other users from all over the world. Being able to virtually take the class together is pretty empowering. There’s also a feature that allows you to high-five other users and a leaderboard for people celebrating milestones such as a certain number of rides or a streak of workouts.
- You can filter classes by the length of the class, the instructor, the type of music the class is set to, or the type of workout. It makes it easy to tailor your own workout to what you want to work on.
- Peloton offers challenges each month/year, and having some kind of goal to work towards is helpful.
After a year of doing hardly any more exercise than walking and the occasional run, it’s been a relief and a true blessing to find a workout routine I can stick to. I’m excited to start in 2021 with a good workout routine! The difference of being able to work out and get the endorphins moving has been huge at the end of 2020 and a great way to start 2021. If you are interested in connecting on Peloton, I’d love to ride together! My username is CaitlinLemonade.
What are some of your fitness goals for 2021?

What a great, affordable way to spin! My husband and I have been looking at a NordicTrack bike, but I can’t bring myself to drop the cash. I love the idea of just using the app. It looks like you are having so much fun!

It is definitely worth it! Thanks, Kristen!

This sounds amazing! I miss spin class so much but since March I haven’t gone back. I have a treadmill, eleiptical and weights at home and so the transition to home only wasn’t very hard. That being said I miss training for something. And I don’t want to do virtual runs. I think I’d really like to add a spin bike and potentially trade it in for the elliptical. I love the idea of this app.
Good luck with your goals.

I’ve never tried Peloton before, it’s great that the app includes so many types of classes!
In 2021 I definitely want to be more active than I was in 2021! I’m planning on power walking with a friend (with masks on)!
